Building of Children's Homes, Primary Schools, Vocational schools and
a Health Center

Because of the Ugandans' high respect for Maria and her vision for africa, 65 hectares(about 165 acres) of land
(it is farmable and very fertile) had been given to us almost for free in the beginning of 2003. The condition was that we would build schools and a Health Center there among other things. The land is located about 35 kilometers (20 miles) outside of Kampala in Mukono next to a good asphalt road.

We currently have built several Children's Homes (Orphanges), a Primary School and a Vocational School each for young women and young men. The Teacher Training Center and Worship Center are complete as well.

We hope to start building the Health Center. Construction is underway for the School for Hotel Management, Dormitories for Primary and Vocational students and expandsion of our Teachers living quarters as the resources
are provided.

Preventing Female Genital Disfiguration – The girls refer to it as “cutting”

On the Ugandan-Kenyan border, there are tribes that still practice the cutting out of the genitals of young girls. It has been outlawed, but is still practiced in some areas. In our girl’s school, we provide safety to girls who request it. The education we provide will free them from this dangerous practice of cutting. The girls will have new status due their earning power. Education will provide freedom for these girls from the brutality of this practice as well as for their girl children.

Girls are typically cut every even year (2008,2010) from Dec 1-31. To escape cutting, girls run away from their villages with nothing but the clothes on their bodies.
